I was intrigued by Caterham's MPG figures on previous posts and also have an 11 reg 2.4 , I have a scan gauge and have checked it against recorded data and its reasonably close. If I try really hard, coast to junctions read the road, feather the throttle and use no more than 1750 rpm in any gear on clear roads I can achieve really good figures in the low 40s, generally however I achieve a lot less, speed and revs kill good mpg in a 2.4 DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS, I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

you've got me thinking now. I'll have to dig out the photos of the receipt and check but pretty sure the number above are what I recorded........
good to see another 2.4 achieving 40mpg (+ because it's a 90 and lighter ) - in other words what I'm saying is you're not as economical cos you'd expect better being a 90 |

hmmm.
only evidence I can find is for 38.6 mpg. which was 71.94 ltrs over 611.9 miles. I'm sure however one of my tanks did 616 miles and the litres (whatever they were) worked out to be 40mpg. ....I'll keep looking |

Hi Wayne next time I have longish trip without the Caravan I will brim the 90 and try really hard then use hard data to calculate a figure and see how that compares with the scan gauge. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS, I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

90 Hardtop - Puma 2.2L with BAS drivability 150BHP remap.
Best mpg was a steady 90 mile country road and dual carriageway run which returned 35.66 mpg. Overall average mpg with town, local roads and a bit of off road is around 31mpg. Calculated using the excellent ROAD TRIP App. Click image to enlarge |

Like some others I always record mileage and litres at each fill so as to claim the money back and get the VAT.
In my 2015 2.2 110 I get 28 to 30 mpg on the normal A road / motorway commute. 2 or 3 less if I use the motorway more, as may be expected. But I always keep an eye on the fuel gauge and reckon on 150 miles by 3/4 on the gauge; 250 miles at 1/2; 350miles by 1/4 and the light on and bong at 410miles. It will then take 65 litres to fill. Another 25 miles and I get the "Misfire". NB. I have put 75 litres in once when I pushed it a bit to get back to my normal filling station. Now you`ll all be watching the gauge and comparing with the miles travelled The only time this has actually been useful was when an injector started "hosing" and fuel consumption plummeted - it was the mileage after half a tank had gone that alerted me to the problem. Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly! |

I get between 28 and 30 on a motorway run at about 65 mph and about 19 around town that's without a load when loaded it drops to about 20 mpg . I try not to watch the cost too much

I remembered one of my old posts '600 IS possible'
below is from that which gives the 40mpg Max range on a tank 618.3 miles And Max size fill up of 70.02 ltrs I can longer remember the details but would assume that the vast majority of those 618 miles was on the motorway at about 52 mph |
