If you are looking to cut holes and fit to your existing bumper get two sets of these so you have four in total. A quality hole saw with plenty of lubrication does the job. https://www.auto-lighting.co.uk/product-en...Q-V11.html
Note: - the ones I link to are ce marked , the hq-v11 turn on when engine starts and off when lights switched on. The hq-v28 are also ce marked turn on when engine starts but dim when lights switched on. I have the latter. Checking their site the hq-v28’s don’t seem to be there any more. But they come from China so I’m sure other retailers will have them. Doing a little checking they are made by vinstar , seem to be rebadged by hq automotive in uk so search vinstar hq-v28 . There should be others selling them. |

If you're concerned about that sort of thing, it's illegal to have more than two DRL's. Obviously not the most heinous of crimes but it is still the law.
Oh, and like a lot of things, passing an MoT doesn't make it any less illegal. Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought!" - Princess Leia |

Can you point to a source document for stating that?
I'm looking at this which is contradictory: "Therefore there are no detailed legal requirements on the placement of optionally fitted DRL in the UK." Patrick Negus, Department for Transport 24 August 2012 https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/pla..._for_retro |

I am looking to fit front fog lights to the bumper to match my DRL’s - so wont be making an infringement ... (hopefully)

That exchange appears to be more about their position than their number. Take a look at section 6.19 (Regulation 87) in the original UNECE document, which states the number as two: https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN...42019X0057 I'm sure that this has come up before and there was some discussion about DRL's that comprise a number of individual LED, perhaps in a line or pattern. The linked to regulation does cover that sort of installation, describing 'grouped' lamps. The text is pretty dense but suggests to me that two clearly separate lamps are not the same as a series of individual LED's in this context. In that case I guess we'll have to wait until the issue goes before a court, although I expect it'll be a long wait. To my mind though, in the absence of anything else then the starting point for such a judgement would be those regulations. Darren

I'll agree totally it's a good starting point from a common sense point of view; but it's a long way from

Starrett hole saws are good. You do need to go at slow speed , lubricate and don’t pull out until finished. Ohh err. ![]() Some good advice here https://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/gene...ob-249502/ on cutting holes. Note a lot easier on mild steel defender bumpers, and I would not go as far as buying a plasma cutter ![]() One additional thought is finding a local engineering company to give you a quote for cutting/ punching holes for you .If you remove bumper for them I expect it will cost the same as buying a hole saw and doing yourself. |

First check that your bumper is not like mine, as rusty as a dog, so you can save a bit of money on buying a decent holesaw and putting that towards buying a bumper with holes already cut

Rashers - its in very good condition having been galvanised and gloss painted in when fitted ..
![]() Ianh - many thanks - I do plan asking the body shop who did the bumper paint job to cut the holes first .. .. the DRLs were fitted to the bumper before it was mounted to the vehicle Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html Elgar -TDCI(Puma) 110XS Dormobile - now sold Devon & Cornwall 4x4 Response - DC126 ![]() |
