Thats a great job, did you renew the rubber or was it original? I ask because the rubber on mine is damaged and i dont want to replace the whole step if it can be repaired. Good job

Original rubbers because they were in great condition for a 4 year old defender part 😂. Not sure if the rubber can be purchased separate, I hear the rivets can be bought separate but I choose the rivnuts as it means the treadplate can be removed quickly if it needs recoating when it wears.

The threaded rod is just a 45mm stainless steel grub/set screw (was going to cut a stainless threaded rod into lengths but was feeling lazy so ordered them instead) The other part is sometimes referred to as a barrel nut or furniture nut. I got them locally but all available from eBay

They look excellent, and are sure to last a bit longer. Did you say they were 4 years old?!

Yea Nov 2014. The truck had been done with Dinitrol when new And done 29k so they weren’t to bad but had corrosion about the usual stone chip areas.

Look great!
I’ve just picked up a 2014 SW and the side steps need tidying too. Whereabouts in NI did you get them blasted and powder coated mate? Andy |

Powdertek up towards Belfast Docks. Speak to Chris and he will get them blasted and coated. I stripped them myself and dropped them off with him. He’s seen more of my defender parts than the Landrover factory 😂. Mention Mark with the defender and horsebox sent you.

I’d put heli tape on the exposed areas to safe guard the hard work

Actually on reflection, would it be worth galvanising the steps after they were shot blast? Would prefer them to last a good while if I can.
Any tips on how to tidy up after they’ve been hot dipped? Also anyone recommend a place in NI to get them hot dipped? |

I did consider galvanising but if you pop out an end cap and look at the wall thickness I really don’t think they would come out of the dip tank the same shape they went in 😂. Somone on this form I think was selling a set that was galvanised so I guess it’s possible. NK Coatings in NI could do it but bear in mind between galvanising and powdercoating cost you would be able to buy 2 new sets of steps. I have helli tape on the rear area to protect from debris thrown from tyres and the front is protected by the relocation of the mud flaps with the Gwyn Lewis kit. Lots of options out their for steps but I like genuine Landrover although the cost often makes me gulp 😓
