It’s an old FFR, probably used for some wing commander on a run way somewhere with his radio op, it’s probably filled with port.

It could have been for the FFR, the sides on the original would have had meccano racking along its sides and all kinds of Radio equipment would have been strapped in there, along with the batteries there wouldn’t have been a great deal of room for much else so as you say it may well be the default position for the Jerry Can, was looking at the back of the uprights to see if there were any weapons mounts, baring in mind the era of vehicle, weapons would have been SLR which pre dates my service by a decade so, with 2 of them in there at that length it’d be cramped. I bet that was popular ~ lugging a full can in and out of there and if either of the caps were loose whilst driving along... |

Yes rifle clips. With the Dixon rack it does not look out of place. 1984 One-Ten CSW

I know in days of old (pre Land Rover) the airborne jeeps were heavily modified for glider use and this includes putting the spare fuel can between the seats. Considering both versions you are sat on x gallons of fuel a few extras don’t make much difference. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Maybe it’s filled with 20 litres of this stuff here.
Eric Click image to enlarge You never actually own a Defender.
