United Kingdom 2001 Defender 90 Td5 SW Alveston Red
Rear door not locking
Hi all, got a 51 plate 90
In short the rear door closes and catches fine,
But, the lock barrel stopped springing back to the middle a whilst back, and now it doesn’t lock at all, the key fits and moves in either direction fine ,

Just trying to get a heads up to ore order the bits, as I’m a bit short on daylight time slots to look/ fix it

Thanks in advance
Richard

depends on the age of the door/lock.

Earlier versions have a short barrel and there is a hole in the outer tube that houses the barrel. You poke something into the hole and depress the plunger allowing the barrel to slide out.

Later locks use a longer barrel and, as a result, the plunger is much further into the tube. This means that the hole is actually inside the lock mechanism and you have to access it through the slot in the top of the mechanism where the central locking lever would/does come through. On this type you can remove the barrel without removing the lock mechanism although you still need to remove the door card.

1. check that barrel in good order and lubricant

Land Rover Defender - To chassis number 1A622423 (2001)

This will fit locks with the smaller door key.

This corresponds to the following part numbers (current and supereseded)
395037, FQJ103840
