Hi. I have run two in the past, one I lost to a fire and the second eventually was px'd for my 110 USW. Overall a good car, wheel bearings can be very noisy and one or two independents were convinced it was a transmission problem. Have a look at this site for the lowdown

Great car, and reputation for reliability well-earned. Rear diff pinion bearing is a common issue but covered under warranty and clutches can be a bit weak but little else seems to go wrong with them.

^^^ what he said, even when replaced under warranty they still go again... ours is waiting on a trip to Bell Engineering to have it replaced. Meantime we have just bought a second one, a 'facelift' HSE auto. Took a long time & a lot of travelling to find a good car, ironically we ended up buying LR approved used from our closest dealer!
Other key thing to look out for is cambelt & water pump replacement. Pre 2012 that was 10 year or equivalent mileage, post 2012 that was reduced to 7 years or equivelant mileage, not exactly sure why as the part numbers are the same for both vehicles... Apart from that service history & buy on condition. |

In this specific case they did a low level repair, which was the pinion shaft bearings alone as they deemed this sufficient at the time. It was out of warranty by about 3 years at that point I think so can't complain too much. If you're selling it on I might consider buying it back if it's in reasonable nick? |

Fantastic cars, probably the best LR ever made in reliability. We did 147thou miles in ours before getting rid of it. It was an 08 reg and in the last year (2017) first set of front discs, battery, antiroll bar joints, and an intercooler hose. The only other problem we had with it was that the fuel tank is a saddle tank, so two sides, either side of prop, and the transfer pump, or it’s connections, failed, so we just run it from full to half tank before filling up again. So just be wary if buying one and thinking you’ve had a result by getting loads of free fuel with the deal.
We had an Alive remap on ours and it transformed it, much less gear changing, and huge improvement of mpg Andy. |

I own a 2007 XS Freelander 2 as a mile muncher/work hack/tip car
just done 800 miles in it last weekend to Paris and back performed faultlessly, cruised at 90-100leptons without any bother, 5 up with a full boot and still averaged over 31mpg best of all its done 230,000miles! Its been trouble free all these years apart from injectors and a clutch which is to be expected after this many miles really! not worth a great deal these days I imagine so ill just keep it as a faithful dogsbody 2008 Santorini Black 110 XS USW (Sold) 2015 Discovery 4.5 Black pack Firenze red XS 2008 Corris Grey 110 XS USW (sold) 2011 Santorini Black 110 XS USW (Sold) |

I had a freelander 2 for 8 years or so. 40k on the clock when I bought it & 120k when I traded it in.
I never had any problem with it at all & a great car to drive. Quite different to the puma I traded it in for which in the first year already needed a screen frame, blew its intercooler & emptied all its coolant through the heater return pipe. But no regrets. |

Great feedback guys, thanks!
I went to have a look at a couple this morning, both HSE, both immaculate for an 07 and a 10 plate, probably would have pulled the trigger on the 07 as it had relatively low miles and didn’t have a tan interior unlike every other HSE we’ve seen so far, unfortunately someone had already put a deposit on it. Got a couple more to see in the coming days too. |
