Battery Conditioner Mounting Location?
Hi All,

So I've got a LR battery conditioner (CTEK) which comes with the cigar lighter type plug and socket. Im just trying to work out where I should mount the socket somewhere inside the car. Anyone got any pics of installation locations? I'd rather not drill/cut into any metalwork if possible (like battery box area) so wondered where others might have fitted such sockets.

Thanks,
MalithS

Alternatively if you have 13 pin or 12s towing socket you can charge through that rather than cutting holes in your dash etc. Defender 90XS SW

It depends, to a large extent, on how you want to use it and your parking cirumstances. Discomogs' suggestion is by far the easiest but may not suit if there's the risk of it being tampered with.

If it's for occasional use when away on holiday or for work, for example, then a fly lead into the battery box might be sufficient. If for more regular use then I've seen the socket cut into a switch blank on the dash. Another solution might be to set it into a bit of aluminium angle that could be bolted to the passenger seat runner with the wire passing through one of the rubber grommets in the top of the battery box. I'm sure there are other ways that the same could also be achieved. Darren

Thanks for the suggestions. Id rather not use the trailer socket as I use this charger on other cars. I sometimes park up the defender and it can sit for 4-6 weeks without being driven. At the moment I have the charge wire hanging out in the cabin out of the battery box but I'd rather run it nicely under the carpet to maybe somehwere under the dash area. It would be nice to have it neatly fitted (maybe I need t sit in the car and have another look for locations).

I use a C-tek comfort connect jobby with 30cm of fly lead direct to the battery. The plug sits besides the passenger seat runner and is relatively unobtrusive. Then charger then sits on the passenger seat (so i don't forget to un plug it) with an extension lead running out of the bottom door seal to the house. 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop

Charging in this way is done via an adapter (that can be bought via the forum shop) so doesn't preclude using the charger elsewhere. Darren

Just use one of these leave it connected to the battery and as an added bonus it shows you the condition of the battery via leds. Safety fuse included in the link so very safe

... and charging via the cigar lighter will only work if it is live with the ignition off.

My CTEK is mounted on the centre bulkhead between the seats and I feed through the cigarette lighter (which is permanently live).
Mains power comes in through a flap in the rear and I have a mains lead hard-wired in the vehicle, connects to a weatherproof socket fitted to the house wall just behind the spot where the LR lives. ONE LIFE, GET IT!
