Has anybody fitted this kit?
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fuel-Cutoff-sol...0664257369 Does the fuel pipes need to be feeded after stall? May vacuum damage fuel cooler or pipes? Need your opinions. Thank's.! |

What i can contribute is the following. More than 200,000 km ago i tore off the fuel line after the filter in the woods, engine stalled. After the fuelpipe had been patched, I had to turn the key at least 30s (!) to get the engine running. Until today (225.000 km) without any problems (2.4l). Maybe some things are overrated...and some things are more robust than you think
The solenoid valve is certainly a good idea, perhaps it would be useful to connect it with a self-retaining relay, then you save the extra switch. |

Thanks hornet, how do you set up a self retaining relay?

My thought would be by means of the control of a switching relay, e.g. windshield wiper or horn (!) to control parallel a self-holding relay for the fuel supply. Thus immediately after/with the start one activates the self-holding. It would be stupid only if it rains at the time of the theft -- but that must not be the only protection...

I would use one of these on a 200 or 300 TDI. A td5 or puma can be mobilised in so many more ways. 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)
2009 - current .... 2005 zx10r |

as always, several little things should be installed together. if i have a pedal protection, my OBD port doesn't work and then the motor dies off, most don't have any pleasure anymore. The really good ones come anyway with the crane...

primitive I know, and probably not practical.....
but if the idea of a fuel cut off is for anti-theft reasons perhaps a piece of string from the prop to the fuel line might work |

OR. a little more sophisticated might be a tie wrap and piece of string link to prop.
the idea being tie wrap squeezes fuel pipe and string snaps before pulling fuel line to pieces. easily rectified and all that but might flummox many thieves |

years ago a friend of mine was at uni in Manchester. He had an old mk 1 mini that was always nicked for people to get home in, recovered 3 times locally by the plod.
He fitted a timer relay that cut power to an electric fuel pump after 20 seconds or so, so it would conk out a few hundred yards from where it was parked, after a few 'borrowings' it was never taken again. \I know Defender thefts are a bit different, but a similar system linked to a one way valve on the clutch that would disconnect drive and a separate well hidden alarm might help. |

I do like the idea of a shotgun blank and trip with a trip wire to a switch to the starter (so you remember to disconnect the trip wire before starting and driving off) as it would scare the s41te out of anyone in the early hours!
Even possible to do a system with the cartridge and firing pin in a sealed Tupperware with a wire to the propshaft if you have to park on the street - not sure of the legalities of it though! |

Put it inside the cab. The thief is the deaf bloke with blood coming out of his ears!
Question: if a 12 gauge blank was discharged inside the cab, would the glass survive intact? |

I don't know about a blank shot gun cartridge but many years ago during an off road foray, I got my series 2a truck cab stuck in a big mud hole, I was busy trying to free said vehicle when a concerned member of the group lobbed a crow scarer through the passengers window. When I regained consciousness, seriously, the engine was dead and the entire group were stood around my vehicle pi..ing them selves with laughter. My ears were ringing for the rest of the evening.
