Opinions on Goodyear Wrangler Dura Trac
Looking to replace my Wrangler MT/R's. I am keen to go with the Pirelli Scorpion AT Plus. But....

What I liked about my MT/R's is how long they have lasted and not one puncture. So would not be at all apposed to sticking with Goodyear.

I know the Dura Trac is old tech. But it just looks, tough, for an AT tyre, kind of old school'ish.

Any one here running them. Oppinons on road noise and puncture resistance?

Why do you say Low Tech - its the LR standard recommended proper off-road tyre for the L663 - I have a set in the garage waiting to go on mine.

Also I had MTR's on my Disco 3 for years - great (if noisy) tyres! Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

"old tech" as in there have been other evolution/iterations of LT tyres over the last 5 years. A lot of new gen AT tyres now have the capability of older MT variants.

My Puma has run on them since new. No problems or punctures, mostly road , some green lanes and a bit of off roading. Get noisier as they wear. Current set have 9 mm left after 24000 miles. One is the vehicle's original spare from 2013 which bothers me a bit.
Are MT/Rs still available?

I’ve had a set on my puma for the last 2 and a bit years, standard 235/85/r16. I chose to stick with wranglers after having a good run with the MTRs that came with the car from the factory. The Duratrac ATs perform better on-road and are excellent off road too. I’ve had no punctures with either including lots of off-road and gravel road travel. Not cheap but I would definitely buy again when the time comes.

Anyone found Dura Trac in 235 85 16 in the UK recently?
It is listed as a manufactured size. The Goodyear website even has a picture of one. But I am not finding size available so far. 1995 Defender 110 CSW

I have 265/75 r16 Goodyear wrangler duratrac MT tyres on sawtooth rims. They have been on my 110 for 7 years covering 45k miles. Being an MT tyre they have a nice aggressive look however the tread pattern is more like an AT tyre when you look at it. There is about 60% of the tread left , no cracks in the sidewalls and have not had any punctures. They perform very well on the road in dry and wet conditions and in heavy snow. In the last year they have become more noisy, but that is expected with age and it’s not too noisy.
I would buy again if they were made in a 255/85 r16 as I prefer that size, so will likely go for a km3 at that point.

Finding a supplier of duratracs in the uk is also getting harder, especially in the 265/75 r16 size.

Just wanted to check in and say thank you for all the informative replies.

Forum search found comments mostly from 5 years ago.

They seem to be available in the AU. And now whittled my choices down to three options, Dura Trac at the top.

Finally have these tyres fitted. I went 265/75R16. 235/85R16 I thing would have been better, as they are pretty square wide and aggressive.

Only 15km traveled so far as we are under lockdown limiting travel of 5km from home max. No usable first impressions other than they feel like new tyres, and very quiet at the moment.

Pretty please with the tread as it appears to be a good compromise between M/T and A/T. I think they look ok on the Defender.

I'm also looking at these Duratracs as an option. Would probably go 235/85/16 but yes there do seem to be stock issues currently.

When you say they are very quiet at the moment, can I ask what you are comparing them to, i.e. what tyres/size did they replace?

Edit: sorry, didn't see your first post. So I gather they replaced the old factory-option Wrangler MT/Rs in 235/85/16? Which are more block-tread than the Duratracs? And the Duratracs are quieter?

Yes M/T are generally known to have road noise. I didn't mind the sound TBH.

From what I know, brand new M/T and A/T tyres can start of with very little noise. Some change with use. M/T are known to make more road buzz over A/T, due to the significant gaps between tread blocks on M/T's. The gaps are there to allow mud to easily clear from the tread.

My factory MT/R's had 10 years on them. Now with brand new Dura Trac's I can hear engine and transmission sounds, that I have never heard before!

I had a set on my 110 in 265. Lovely tyre in looks and road noise. Really hard to come by though in 16” and could only get them shipped from US 1951 80" S1 2.0

Duratrac AT's are a lot quieter than factory Goodyear MTs and I haven't noticed any increased noise over the couple of years they've been fitted.
