..Key Fob confusion..
..Hi guys..its time to change battery inside key fob, as it requires double press on unlock to unlock car, which is sign that battery is on its way out..fine..now, several posts here i have seen, regarding this topic, and it seems that battery must be replaced inside truck, within 5 minutes...weird..but ok..then, I went to LR official service center here/HQ, and they told me, no need..just replace battery at home and it will be just fine...then i saw this video, which does exactly that (replace battery home and all works fine, no 5 minute thing and what not)...i have also found this web site which describe battery replacement for my key fob (Lucas 17TN) and there is not a one slightest indication that is limited by any time frame or that it requires it to be inside or near vehicle proximity..

..so after watching this video, reading forums here, and talking to LR, im confused what to do..so, i wanted to ask, did any of you guys, changed it just as this dude in video did it?? truck is MY2014 ..

Mine died on me last week the same day my other car was due in for its service, the guys down the garage swapped over the dead battery for me and it worked absolutely fine when I got back to my truck

I'm sure I changed in the house but then walked straight out and re-set. Probably worth doing within 5 minutes, so not to tempt fate. James

Yeah, they did it while my defender was about 3 miles away with no problem. In the past I have always changed the battery like suggested and in the cab, but I didn't have that luxury this time.

If i needed to do it again I would still err on the side of caution and swap them over how the manual says, but I'm not sure how strictly those rules need to be followed now.

Fyi, "truck" in question was a 2.2 2012 defender 90

yes and no.

The 10AS by default is set to be able to resync the plip (aka rolling code)

If you have mucked around with the 10AS and turned allow resync off, then once you remove the battery, you will need diagnostic to get the plip working with it again.

pressing unlock 4 times and then lock once will activate the resync procedure.

once you remove the battery, and if you are quick and do not disturb the electronics on the plip, it's possible to not even have to resync the plip and it will just work. if your battery is so weak or the residual current was drained from the plip, then you will need to resync it after the battery change. From the land of the most expensive land rover defenders on planet earth. At 125k for a XS 110 csw and you get to own it only for 10yrs! Please find me a good reason to stay on this island.
