looks like its not the door loom, but I have replaced it anyway. Looks like its had some 3rd party wiring done somewhere.
I have decided to try and order off genuine land rover housings and bulbs just in case these ones are crap. I took the bulbs out and the system didnt blow, As soon as i tried a bulb in each hand the system blew. So it looks like the connects maybe be troublesome on the units. Well if this hasnt sorted the problem then i will have to get an auto sparkie in Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |

Cheaper to buy yourself a 12v circuit tester which has a 12v bulb in it (£ !.99 from Toolstation), or a cheap multimeter.
Remove the lamp fittings one at a time and apply the 12v circuit tester to the pins ( earth and live). Two circuits for the stop/tail lights remember. If the bulb lights and doesn't blow the fuse, then it is almost certainly the fitting. If it blows the fuse then it is chafing/short on the loom wiring. The rear loom plugs in in the engine bay, and you can test there too using the same method. Just be logical and do one thing at a time - saves a lot of money randomly replacing parts! |

This is a known problem area. Yes you can unplug if it is a standard fit. The plug is under the drivers side rear wheel arch.
A search on the site should get you photos. |

If you have the socket fitted it is easier to undo the three bolts and whip the socket off and check the back, if the standard rubber/plastic cover has not been taped up round the cable it surprising how much water and rubbish can get in and remain even though the socket has a drain hole. The connector is behind the plastic protector and up at the top . Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |
