I love how the iPhone is described as "faddy" Laughing

as a business tool its absolutely fantastic. yes, the battery is not perfect but 3gs and 4 models is far better. there are also cases you can get which give double the battery length. i dont see whats not to like. your music whenever you want, synched calendar, email and online file access etc. I'm not really an app person but there seems to be programs to do anything.

my only real criticism of it is the poor reception. I have an old nokia which I take into the hills and when the iphone has 1 bar of service, or none, the nokia usually has at least 3.

That's a pretty massive "only criticism" though... Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

I have Samsung Galaxy S (GT-I9000) ... 8Gb memory ... Very nice image/screen, nice aplications/gadgets to run with it ... added an 8Gb sdcard for more music and software ... Loads almost every webpages quickly ... the ones that load on webmobile mode are slower ( Razz )

Bad stuff - the GPS (uses Google Maps) is not precise - don't know if it is the GPS itself or the google software ... sometimes gives me indications 50 mtr before or after what it should ....
It's becoming slower everyday Exclamation .... The battery wont last more than 36 hrs ... If I talk a lot and send more than 20 sms a day and use the internet it wont last 24 hrs ... It's not very user friendly when answering emails from it ...

Although I'm satisfied with it ... Don't know if I recomend it ... Mr. Green Regards
Joao

Check you lot out... I would consider myself being one of the younger members of the forum (Being under 30), and I use my mobile phone to, well, make phone calls and send text messages.

Down side to iphones and the like:

- Yes you can put all your music on it, but when you are playing it battery life is destroyed and nower days some airlines don't even let you use 'flight mode' electronics on airplanes.

- I have noticed that people with (mainly) iphones and HTC and Blueberrys tend to have their whole life on their phone. When it breaks/ gets lost, so does their life.

- Battery life..... I remember my old Ericsson t28 which would last a week with 30-45 mins talking every night and still have some life left in the battery. Now it seems that a week on standby is 'really really good' with most needing charging every day.

I have the following:
-Phone for calling and texting
-MP3 player for music
-Laptop for internet, games and movies

Phones and Facebook/ Twitter have taken over everyone's life. Whenever I go away for 6 months at a time I am unable to have a mobile phone so get the feeling of freedom from the whole 'I must have my iphone because I want to download a new song before I get home in the next 10 mins whilst updating my twitter with some bone statement which people don't give a damn about, LOL, PMSL, BRB, 10:4 Rubber ducky'....... But then again, I guess that probably makes me 'Sad'.

Besides £600 on a phone could be way more wisely spent in many other ways..... maybe even go down the pub with real people and have a face to face conversation.

Just my 2p worth Thumbs Up

Gotta agree with Glyn here.

The problem with a lot of the kit is battery life if used for everything and the problem that if it goes wrong nothing works.

The HTC was good for around 36 hours on a full charge if used as a phone and for a bit of email / web stuff. Always used ny iPod for music though.

The Sonim I've gone back to is lasting about 12 days with fairly heavy use on a single charge. Thumbs Up

Have to agree - all this "progress" has resulted in phones that do a lot. But can't do the basics very well. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

Mike - do you swap the sim card between phones, or have two cards?
Was wondering if I got an iPhone, could I swap the sim to my old trusty nokia dumbphone for nights on the mountain/beer etc? (Have a feeling the iPhone has a cut-down sim... but can you get adaptors)?

iphone for me.

i had a blackberry - annoying piece of cr@p ... really complicated to configure,
also had palm trio .. nice, tough screen but out of date now
the htc / samsung's are nice but they are iphone copies / wannabe's

iphone just works - all you need is a 12v iphone car charger

A land rover phone would be a great backup ..
