The diff should be sealed into the axle with Hylosil 100.
On the P38 diff, the genuine tool sets the seal 1.6mm into the pinion housing (on tne Rover pattern diff the seal is set 6.0mm into the housing). |

Thanks for the reply. I'll get some Hylosil. I'll turn up a tool to set the seal 1.6mm into the housing, as I assume I have the P38 style diff? If it's not a dumb question, which Land Rover has the Rover pattern diff? Cheers, Darren. |

For Tdci and late Td5, Rover pattern diff front and rear on 90, front only on both 110 and 130. P38 diff in rear on 110 and 130.
I don't think the 1.6mm will be a problem, I'd leave it as it is. |

Since it's all out. Something you may want to consider is a "Super flange" from Nige at Xcess4x4, it's been machined to sit much closer to the pinion housing and protects the seal very well. Used to trash a seal about once a year with the use I gave it but not had an issue since fitting those. Mind you with two pegged Ashlockers in situ I wanted to protect my investment and it wasn't a whole lot in the grand scheme of things. Ed

Didn't Land Rover offer a flange with a mudshield for the rear differential?

They all used to have mudshields until they were "value engineered" out!
Have you seen the price of that flange in the link above? It's £180 including they vat, I nearly spilt my tea!  |

Sadly for information only because it is for the earlier Dana 60 axle. Pity they didn't do something similar for the later axles.

Again Nige's flange will fit the newer axles. My rear is certainly a P38 / Wolf diff off a late Td5 110 so the same I think as the Tdci where it matters. Ed
