Spotted this today, a simple 'where am I ?' app which has a unique identifier for each m2 on the earth. Increasing used by the emergency services in tracking down lost people.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-49319760 Just tried it and very easy to use. It has a navigate to button as well as saying where you are. 2010 XS USW 1957 Series One 88 diesel 1958 Series One 88 4x2 |

This is a great idea for remote travel, hope it catches on. Mutch easier to say three words than read out a long. and lat. to 10 decimal places when you are stranded in the Sahara with adapter shaft failure 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I've been using this for a little while in connection with work and it's a very neat solution. In my case, it's being used to locate features such as pedestrian bridges in parks and common land. Darren

Yes but it still looks useful especially if you are navigating by postcode, this is much more accurate by the look of it. 2010 XS USW

^^^^ I remember reporting someing to the police a few years back when I was out laning on Salisbury plain.
I attemoted to give the call handler a grid ref, but she said the local bobbies wouldn't have OS maps, could I furninsh her with a post code! Yes, because the impact areas out there have their own post code This 3 word thing would have been ideal... I've had it installed on my phones for a while now. |

I installed this a while back. Clever stuff. Thankfully I've not had to use it yet.

Which is fine, because it doesn't need a phone signal to work! JB @Lodelaner Instagram Youtube greenlaning and other LR related content |

If you’d been a bit further west on Avon & Somerset’s patch you could have given them a What 3 words location, they’ve been using it a few years now. |

In an emergency without a phone signal, if you ring 111 as an alternative to 999 the phone will seek a signal and connect you to someone in the UK to take your call. Four weeks ago while in a remote part of North Yorkshire without a phone of internet connection I needed the emergency services I dialled 111 and was able to contact the Police in York. Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

I downloaded it yesterday and it works in the wilds of Canada too.
Canada has the most amazing 4G cellular data coverage even out to 40 miles offshore I get a strong data signal on Vodaphone. Their phone providers had to commit to covering every main road for its entire length to assist rescue of road accident victims on very remote roads everywhere regardless of the weather, most impressive as I cannot even get a 3G signal on O2 at home 18 miles north of Glasgow! Why didn’t the UK do something like that instead of blanket covering inner city easy to cover areas and leaving the countryside almost without cover? I’m using my 4G 20 miles off the coast of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia to post this, 4 bars signal strength, no big centres of population ashore for many miles Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come 2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed! Last edited by Tim in Scotland on 16th Aug 2019 5:18pm.
