Defender Utility?
Hello,

Do you think Land Rover will be offering a commercial Defender based on the new design?

Anybody heard anything about this?

I would be surprised if they don`t offer some sort of Commercial version that meets the Tax requirements to be run as a company van, attracting much lower BIK liability than a "Car" version, and the VAT can (sometimes) be claimed back.
This, I am sure, is the reason that the previous Utility version exists - it classes as a van - and is also the reason I have one! Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!

Not sure to get another 110 Utility or wait to see what the new one looks like. Decisions, Decisions.

Imo after they recoup some devel costs from a year or so of 90/110 sales all sorts of variants will be added.

Think Discovery 5 Commercial. Window blanks, false floor, load guard and standard interior trim that will beaten up and tatty after a few months. Cant see a '110 or 130' three door. Ford Ranger Raptor is looking more interesting and probably cheaper to buy and service, oh and does not run on 20inch low profile tyres.

In Australia the only Raptor thats small enough to fit on normal 4x4 trails is the Ranger Raptor, amazing susp, but only comes with a "just enough" 2L option, and reduced payload and towing from the normal Ranger from memory.

Interestingly Jamal Hameedi (the guy responsible for the Raptor @ ford) is now Director of Engineering @ Landrover Special Vehicle Operations (SVO). Looking forward to what he comes up with for the new defender 😍.

The Big problem with the Raptor is the payload, because it is under 1000kg (650 I think) it is classed as a car/SUV for BIK,

True, BIK rate on the Raptor at higher rate tax is currently £111.67 per month or £55.83 per month low rate.

110 Utility is currently classed as a van so no BIK rate applies.

There's BIK on a company van if you user it frequently:
https://www.parkers.co.uk/company-cars/what-is-bik/

Still a lot less than on a company car, but there all the same.

Grey area that. You can use the van for travelling to work and back but if you put the kids bikes in the van at the weekend then BIK applies. HMRC have bigger fish to catch.

If your van is sign written like mine are, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Just my opinion. Smile

That's interesting. Not sure if I'm too honest or just worry too much (probably the latter).
When my wife's BMW X1 gets poorly, she fancies a Ford Ranger or similar pickup. As we'd still use the Defender for holiday, we'd probably get away with paying nothing.
Probably good to chat with the accountant - not sure if being based from home would be an issue.

Someones having a play, this render is not inline with leaked 130 shape from slides but not a bad effort.
