Please excuse the photo, but I was watching the box last night and caught this moment in a zoo and was so blown away I had to take a photo. It is of Chester Zoo’s family of Elelphants. The matriarch lying on the floor is pregnant and just starting labour. The remainder of the family, aware of this, have roused from their sleep and formed up in a line to watch over her and protect her through the night. Watching them do so, getting in position in unison and then just standing their together was amazing. Nature often has the ability to amaze.

Yes, elephants are fantastic and inspirational, as are many animal species.
Animal behaviour often makes me despair about homo sapiens, it is really our "inhumanity" that separates us from the beasts. |

I've been lucky enough to visit The Sheldrake Trust in Nairobi. If you like elephants its worth looking them up and supporting if you can. James

I have been lucky enough to experience some amazing encounters with wild elephants on my travels in Africa and they are amazing in everyway. I just wish we as humans would do more to protect our wildlife great and small so generations to come can enjoy it too. 2015 HT XS 90

truly an amazing animal
If you like this, then take a minute to read about the Elephant Whisperer, how he saved a group of marauding elephants and how they mourned his eventual death. Unbelievable stuff. |
