So, can we use it in the Defenders? Will the power output be better? Easier to drown proof, I'd expect.

Why do people think it would be better ?

No electronics?
Also, I think it would be simpler to just install it in place of the electronic Puma? I'm just spitballing here. IF it's the same or better than the electric 2.4 Puma then it could be a viable option for longevity and perhaps durability? |

Surely it would be cheaper and considerably less effort to fit a Tdi engine if you are that excited about a mechanically injected engine ?

I imagine that it is entirely non-compliant with emissions regs, since (as far as I know) boats still enjoy a more relaxed regime. Its performance (in terms of torque and power curves) is also probably completely different and unsuited to road vehicles.
I really cannot see any reason why you would want to fit a marine engine in a road vehicle! |

"I really cannot see any reason why you would want to fit a marine engine in a road vehicle!"
Remember the old Rover V8 was a Buick engine in the 1960's that was fitted to a boat when Rover first bought the rights. "It was Rover's Managing Director, William Martin-Hurst, who managed to source the 3.5-litre V8 engine, having cast far and wide for something suitable - and finding it by accident in an American boatyard. Knowing that the engine was being phased out by General Motors, he approached the company, offering to purchase the rights to build it. The deal was certainly an audacious one because of the fact that it involved an outright payment to the American multi-national, thereby avoiding further royalty payments in the future. The deal was hammered out during the winter months of 1964 and by the following January, the engine was the property of Rover." https://web.archive.org/web/20071008203751...verv8f.htm Cheers Don. |

Indeed, but that was not designed as a boat engine, it was a redundant vehicle engine someone had installed in a boat.

Definitely a step back from the tdci pump but alot of steps forward against the older td, TDI and none turbo engines plus you can have the 6 speed box

Trouble is its not just the pump. It's bespoke injectors, bespoke pistons, bespoke injector pipes.
I'm not sure an exposed FIP drive belt is going to be reliable on a Land Rover either. Are you going to be able to order these easily from Ghana or Kenya or Morrocco to take advantage of its simplicity ? And with a bit of ingenuity you can stick a 6 speeder behind any engine 😉 Get yourselves a real mechanical engine and dont waste good 300 tdi pumps on your transit engine 😁 Mo The Land Rover 90 - Many are called, few are chosen. 50 Shades of Pennine Grey |

Well, one can dream of a mechanical Puma engine that can be used and tuned to equal that or slightly surpass the stock set up of the electric Pumas.
