Thanks Zed. The sidesteps UK website has been quoted on here before, I couldn't find any link by searching. I think that's the kind of thing I will plump for. The Nak one's are nice, but I had my heart set on a standard look.
Alex L. Oh the corrosion warranty It's a bolted on extra. They don't cover bolted on extras. Honestly. It is. Came from the factory like that along with the mudflap brackets which have a hell of a lot more corrosion on them than the side steps. That's the first job and after saying all that about keeping it stock, I may well go away from standard with some Gwyn Lewis ones. To say I have been demoralised (but not surprised) with JLR's anti-corrosion warranty is an understatement. Two and a half years waiting to get to the bodyshop, and it's not even fixed yet (allegedly, bits on back order - JLR have no stock ) As most bits are bolted on a Defender, I suppose I am lucky that JLR actually repairsd anything on my truck |

Poor form on the anticorrosion on JLR's part.
Mine expires this year so will be having a hunt soon for rust and then book into my local dealer. I had the bulkhead and windscreen coffins re-painted last year. |

Alex L, there has been quite a lot of discussion on here with JLR's reluctance to sort out their incompetence. Thus, I was not surprised at what the body shop told me.
I have been very loyal to my dealer. The service reception have been very good, but the body work warranty work has been terrible. I have been lied to, fobbed off, it was absolute heartache. I am not the sort of person who shouts at people and I try and be a nice to others as I would hope others would be to me, but I do wonder if it would have been better if I had kicked off in the showroom and upset myself a bit more?? It's not really my style but I felt like I had been walked over. I phoned the bloke I needed to speak to was at lunch, on holiday, away from his phone and nearly every time, they never called back. After a PM from Swine and Small on here, I will be looking elsewhere for my servicing from now on. Especially since the price of the extended warranty increased this year to ridiculous monthly payments Anyone else got any recommendations for side steps? Although I am impressed with the sidesteps uk ones Zed recommends |

I had sidestepsuk ones on a Disco.... they were excellent, and as they were relatively local to me, they fitted them at no extra charge!!!

I like the standard factory item. I used to clean ours regularly with a coating of WD40 including all around the brackets etc,...never had any issues, but of course we don't have salty roads etc like you do.
However, I've read of guys on this site who've sprayed the inside of the steps with anti corrosive etc, which fixed the problem. Pickles. |
