CB Radio making wipers Activate
As title says -we were out on Salisbury Plan over the weekend and very time e spoke for longer than a few seconds on the CB the wipers would come on. Was very annoying!!! Tried most of the different frequencies on the CB - all the same...

Am using a Team MC8 cb radio on a bendy sprung aerial on the roof bars all on a D90 Puma XS.

Anyone have any ideas??

Thanks

James

Via cigar lighter socket under heater controls.

Would a different cb unit make a difference?

can you test the connections in the socket? if not or youre not confident I would connect the cb direct to the battery (put a fuse close to the battery) and see then.

Do you think there may be a loose connection to the socket? Ave also used it for satnav and charging phone and it worked ok? Why would it cause the wiper to activate?

I will have the spare battery wired up next weekend, will be able to connect directly to one of the 12v socks I'll add to that via a fusebox.

The magnetic field created when you press the transmit button will be pulling the relay in for the wipers.
You need to properly ground every thing in the circuit and run good quality coax from the CB to the antenna away from most of the cars wiring.

This should help.

Fitting ferrite rings on the power lead to the CB will also help, as stated above, connect the CB directly to the battery not the cigar lighter.

All the other things you plug in are chargers / power supplies, its the RF / magnetic field from the CB which is causing interferance.

That would make sense as the antenna cable was routed from the shelf under the grab handle, down past the cubby box and back around the passenger seat up and behind the passenger seat and out of the door. Therefore the cable will have wrapped around the starter and aux batteries and main ground for the car.

So where is the best place to mount a CB in a PUMA to prevent this? Also if I connect a 12V Socket directly to the aux battery via a fuse box under the passenger seat and then plug the CB into that will that work? Not sure I want the CB permanently plumbed in...

Thanks for all your help and suggestions though!
