I always like business names with the proprietor’s name in the title. It gives a sense they are proud of their work. I hate anything like A1 building services etc.

I was behind a property maintenance company van the other day. They were called 'Purr', which I thought rather appealing.

I was tempted to call my plumbing company 'Cowboy Plumbing', working on the idea that everyone would already have heard of it (!) but I hoped very much not to live up to the trade's reputation. Sense prevailed, fortunately.

In the end, I named it after a bit of equipment I'd worked on for my previous employers which was unusual, but rolled off the tongue and made it easily recognisable.

Having your name included is certainly a good idea (unless you happen to be called John Wayne, Gene Autry or Clint Eastwood of course...) and will help in making sure you're unique in your area.

Whatever else you do, make sure you set up as a Limited Company. It's very cheap to do, although you'll need an accountant to sort out your returns, and you pay your Corporation Tax in arrears, not on account, every year. It also helps to leave you less personally liable if you have a disaster.

On the subject of which, if you're going to use naked flames for anything, make sure you read every line of your public liability insurance policy and comply with every single clause for the use of heat before you light the flame, every time.

Sorry if you know all this already, but someone I know well found out about it the hard way (and no, it wasn't me).

There are several things to think of before you select a name.
IF you are thinking of making your Company a much larger concern in the future calling your company by a catchy name may well hold you back when tendering for work.
Next if you describe your Company as say Xyz Roofing Services by using Roofing Services you have put yourself in a box & now you have limited yourself.
Don’t pick a name that you have to spell on the phone or is difficult to use for a website.
You do NEED a website- it can save you hours of explaining to people on the phone what you do etc etc.
Pick a name that is near the top alphabetically. Trust me my Company name is at the end of the alphabet & difficult to spell but l inherited the name when l bought my business & it had been here nearly 50 years.

Finally with a name that has your job description within it can limit you getting Trade accounts ( no where as much as it use to do)- l come across this perhaps once a year & l have a name that is an all encompassing name.
Feel free to run your choices past everyone!
Best of luck
