Yeah that's what I thought. But it definitely wasn't there yesterday and it's a bit strange that its now on the floor and the defender doesn't start

Hmmmm.... worst case thoughts going through my mind....
Some scrote has tried stealing your defender.... previously they were in someones garage and took the starter out of the strip light so that if anyone did come in and try the lights, they wouldn't work. When he was under your truck the starter fell out of his pocket. Have a gander underneath yours; check for any cut wires (like the main earth strap from the battery box) |

Had a good look and everything seems fine under the car. It went into a garage the other day to have the fuel breather replaced so maybe it's just coincidence that a it fell out of their pocket or something. Checked all our security cameras and nothing seems untoward. Very odd. Still doesn't explain why the defender won't start though unfortunately

Is the battery ok? Is the immobiliser being switched off when the ignition is activated? Are there any unusual warning lights illuminated?
As diesel jim says, I'd be suspicious that somebody has been fiddling underneath at the main battery to starter supply Retired from the day job and now self employed - what a life!! |

Well the Defender is fixed. Big question is... does this forum issue Darwin awards?! The fluorescent tube starter was a red herring, god knows where that’s come from. However despite calling the RAC and getting my friend round to help push it back onto the drive, I remembered one other thing had changed since I last used the Defender! I had removed the key fob from the keys as we weren’t using the factory alarm at the moment. Ahhhh it transpires that the key fob is required to disarm the immobiliser! Who’d have thought! What an idiot and sorry for wasting your time!
Thankfully the RAC didn’t arrive in time to issue more embarrassment my way! |
