You can buy a planar heater 'brand new' with all the bells and whistles from the main dealer with a 2 yr warranty for around £450 ... I have one in the 110 and its great !
The kit comes complete with everything and you can upgrade the timer and even add a remote to your phone I had a D2 in the past and this is just as good but less money ! (no affiliation to the company - just a happy user) http://planarheaters.co.uk/shop Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html Elgar -TDCI(Puma) 110XS Dormobile - now sold Devon & Cornwall 4x4 Response - DC126 |

Under the second row seats, passenger side. 90degree elbow on the outlet blowing in the direction of the cubby box, very easy to put the holes through the seatbox for the burner inlet/exhaust. Close to the fuel tank if you wish to draw from there whereas I use a small tank under the bonnet using red diesel.
On the exhaust/inlet for the burner I put the exhaust just in front of the passenger back wheel and the inlet draws fom where the pipe is tucked up under the seatbox above the rear prop. I've had it running when doing the likes of Strata Florida and never had any problems |

I had a D2 fitted in my previous 110 under the 2nd row seats and it worked very well there - but not if you wanted to carry lots of loose things as they can block the intake/ outlet ...
in the current 110 we have our Plantar heater mounted under the cubby in a special mount that works very well - (same size as D2 ) Click image to enlarge available from Nakatanenga @ €99 or from Brendan & Barbera at 4x4 overland on here (leeds) http://www.nakatanenga.de/zubehoer/innenau...skonsole-2 Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html Elgar -TDCI(Puma) 110XS Dormobile - now sold Devon & Cornwall 4x4 Response - DC126 |

Cheers. I don't have room under the cubby box on my 110. Under the rear seats will be my chosen location. Warm air ducted to the rear and then into the footwells (middle seats) and hopefully front seat foot wells.
I like the idea of a separate fuel tank under the bonnet. JWL - do you have pics of your install? 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

I'll try to get some tomorrow. All I used was a secondhand Ford Orion coolant header tank, first one I came across, zip tied in the space between the heater box and the front suspension strut. The pulse pump is under there with the fuel pipe running down and along the chassis rail to the heater. No issues with the heat and the tank under the bonnet, can be a little awkward filling but I either use a can with a spout or a funnel and a full tank around 1½l will last 18 hours at constant use, generally in wintertime it's on for two to three hours a day and I'll check and fill about every four days.
The controller, on/off switch I've fixed on the fuse cover in front of the gearsticks. |
