I need to know this too, although I'll end up using a mixture of both 2 and 4mm

I just rang the very helpful guys at https://www.deadening.co.uk/
They made a package suited to my 110 CSW with silentcoat 3mm all over and top foam for the roof lining too.. and after I'd done it all I had very little left so for me their numbers were spot on. They sell everything you need and also gave me a discount for buying all the bits in one go. 01865 343934 Can't recommend them enough. PCM |

10 will be more than enough for the floor and wheel arches. Silent coat isn’t the best for the roof as it has been known to lose it stickiness under heat ( hot days ).
Silent coat/dynamat or any butyl covering is designed to reduce vibration and isn't a sound barrier. If you want to reduce road noise in the rear, consider a 3mm acoustic rubber mat stuck down with a suitable glue and possibly a carpet if it’s feasible. When fitting the butyl mat, use 100mm strips in the rear to provide mass to the flimsy aluminium panels of the rear area. Covering the entire area is a waste of money. Companies will tell you otherwise as they love people who want to spend money and have seen the build projects where the interior of a defender is plastered with it. |

As an alternative, i used this stuff
https://www.ikoustic.co.uk/products/wall/t...gLU8fD_BwE one roll is easily enough for a 90, and it does both airbourne noise and dampens vibration, very easy to work with and thin for under carpets, ive only done the front footwells and seat box so far but the difference is amazing. Its recommended as a building product but also used in aircraft and automotive. Click image to enlarge |

Thank you very much for the tips. I've ordered some Silent Coat from the sound deadening shop with forum discount so we will see how we get on.

You'll soon become obsessed with chasing the decibels.
It's a slippery slope, but one that means i can now hear the kids arguing in the back. |
