I would powder coat because paint will flake quickly I would imagine. Thumbs Up

they were already painted by previous owner and now are flaking hence the reason why im trying to decide what to do... think powder coating was a better idea but just thought i would ask around to see if there was anything better...

There's no reason why paint shouldn't work, but they would need to be prepared properly with etch primer.

Having said that, I've just had a set of tubular side steps galvanised and then power coated, which included the ali treadplate bits for the latter and they look very smart...in the garage. Haven't had chance to fit them yet Rolling Eyes Darren

That all depends on what paint you use!
The problem with powder coating is that if it gets scratched, you have to re do the whole thing, whereas with paint, you can just touch it up.
If you go for paint, I would reccomend POR15. It's fantastic stuff, and pretty easy to paint with, just stay away from the UV resistant POR15, as it is absolutely terrible to paint with!

I used plasticoat spray paint on the snow cowl and it's stood up to the tests of green lanes.

do you plan to walk on the chequerplate?
