Rocker cover off,nothing missing there.
So sump off next, could be one of the bolts from the oilpump rail assembly, anyone know what size they are. |

Nope looks different to that. When took sump off its one of the bolts that holds the oil pump ladder frame to the bottom of the engine block. Part number 12 on the attached parts list, a whole 60p worth of bolt that has sheared.

Hmm, interesting and a little surprising that all the ladder frame and sump bolts are Taptites, according to the link above. Clearly none of the holes are threaded prior to assembly.
For those who don't know, a Taptite fastener has a trilobe thread forming shape which rolls (rather than cuts) the corresponding female thread. |

Interesting, wrongly torqued at assembly? lasted past 200K miles though, would you trust the rest?
Probably just change engine and repair at leisure as had a few diesel in oil episodes (from cracked heads) and engine a bit blue smokey after long tickovers |

I'd get another lower mileage engine and rebuild and run the existing one till either the rebuild was done, then keep it for spares or run it till it died and fit the second motor.
My Volvo is over 210k now and a bit rattly at times but I thought it was going to die after 180k when I foundqq metal in the oil. But it just keeps going and hasn't done anything strange. 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car) 2009 - current .... 2005 zx10r |
