I know all the training providers are different, but I did mine in Norwich just before Christmas. I had two options. A short refresher and a longer course. If you are a bit out of date, I would not go for a refresher as the one I did was very rushed. Go for something a little longer.
In fact the people I used would only allow you to go on the refresher if you had a 17th edition amendment 3 City & Guilds certificate.
As with all things, it's a lot of money. Exam was multiple guess on a computer terminal. I believe everyone on my course got a pass. Let's face it, that let you have the regs book so you have the answers, it's just how quick you are at finding them Laughing

I now have to do a health and safety examination to get the 18th edition qualification put on my electrotechnical skills card (old JIB card). Another £50 or so...... and so the gravy train rolls on.

Thanks for the info.

like you say 'gravy train'.

seems like I might have little choice re the long and refresher course....that said just pulled out my cert from 2012 and it seems to suggest it's a level 3. so perhaps I'll get away with the shorter one (even if it's not the best choice)? Thumbs Up

Out of interest I plugged your 300m of armored into the cable calculation software we use (obviously made a lot of assumptions!!)

16 Amp Type B MCB supplying a 10 Amp single phase load 10mm² 3 Core SWA in a duct buried at 600mm in the ground works.

So Brendan, you were spot on Thumbs Up

As per my previous email about earthing and RCDs etc. etc. etc.

Hope that helps a bit
