It's not uncommon to happen. It's partly the reason why people fit bypass/relayed looms, to avoid sending the full current through that switch and incurring the voltage drop

It's a very common problem. The switch is running at capacity with the standard headlights. It eventually fails. To solve the problem you need to fit relays to take the load off the headlight switch. 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Thanks guys.
That's great information, I just couldn't find a fault that would explain the failure so I was worried that I was missing something. I've ordered a new OEM switch and I'll see how it goes. Any further problems and I'll fit a relay kit. Happy Land Rovering from the land of mountains and snow. |

Mont Blanc, get the Landreiziger loom too. It will not only avoid another switch failure in the middle of the tunnel, but it will also improve your headlights light production.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |
