That story really takes some believing, and if it was a few weeks latter, you would be sensing an April Fools Joke, but how on earth did that happen?

It seemed the flight was run by a partner company under the BA brand.

It’s quite funny. Wouldn’t you have loved to have been on that flight? It must have been so embarrassing for the cabin crew.

It actually happened to me once, that’s why I posted this. Back in the ‘80s I flew with TWA from St.Louis, Missouri to Frankfurt where I would have a connecting flight to Brussels. To my surprise we landed in Brussels instead. Same pilot error which then also was not spotted by air traffic control. Brussels was my final destination, but nobody could disembark. After more than an hour and refuelling we took off again to Frankfurt, from where I then had to fly back to Brussels again. Was a long trip. Not joking.
We always called TWA (bankrupted long ago) Trans Worst Airlines. Laughing
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Surprised the pre-flight checks didn't prevent this as one of the things they should do is check if there is enough fuel to get to the destination & Edinburgh is further than Düsseldorf so should have rung bells for a start. I guess though that with short haul flights like that as long as it's got more than half a tank they don't look too closely Shocked

Love the bit in the BBC report online where the pilot asked for 'hands up who wanted to go to Düsseldorf?' Rolling with laughter

I would imagine the pilot was safely locked behind his terrorist-proof door and stayed there until every single passenger had left the plane at Dusseldorf. Then I would imagine the cabin crew gave him a good kicking Laughing

There's two of them up the pointy end. Did they both make the same error or was there a breakdown in communication?

Sadly the latter seems to be a common thread in air accidents where the Co-Pilot is too scared to question the Pilot who is seen as un-touchable.

Yep. Thanks Nat Geo Channel for that Thumbs Up

I heard they were given the wrong flight plan, & obeyed it without stating where the flight was to.

If the flight plan was incorrect they would have probably be caught on guard frequency or intercepted I'm on IG: https://www.instagram.com/osloblue42/

A recent BA example.
Flight from Manchester to Heathrow - no luggage loaded.
Passenger in transit to Hanoi.
Luggage re-directed ... to Hong Kong.
And finally to Hanoi minutes before she embarked on a flight to Hue.
