Victron 230 amp split charge question.
I just am curious as thinking I may get one of these and I know at least a couple of people on here use them already. The Victron Cyrix 230 amp relay has a jump start function to help if you flatten your starter battery. As I understand you hit a momentary switch which engages the relay joining your batteries for 30 seconds.

If you found yourself in need of this feature, how do you use it? Do you try to start the car while the batteries are joined? Or do you wait for the 30s to pass for some charge to pass to your starter battery and then try to start on the starter battery alone?

I assumed it would the former, but Victron recommend 250amp fuse between the batteries, and I wondered if starting a car might draw more than that and pop the fuses. The relay is rated for a short term current of 500ish amps (I assume to handle starting current), but you could never get near that with the Victron recommended fuses in place. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I've got an IBS 'intelligent' split charge system. If the starter battery does get flat (which the IBS should prevent in the first place) you simply press a button, both batteries are temporarily linked and you simply hit the starter. Once the engine fires and the alternator is feeding back into the system the link function drops out. Works fine and I've had to use it a few times - and its quick and simple. Not sure about the Victron unit though.

Thanks. Can you tell me what fuses you have between the two batteries? 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Never paid much attnetion to be honest - so just popped the holder just now and they're 40A with a 100A relay.

Just checked the link function - its on a timer (rather than charge-controlled), and one press on the link button gives a 30 minute connection, which can be repeated. This is an old unit (over 20 years now) and the newer ones have far more functionality/connectivity.
