As per my other post tonight (about 'shims' behind the felt glass channels) i'm rebuilding onto new doors.
One of the implications is newer door handles and larger lock barrels. There's a kit I can get with a new ignition switch and three new barrels. This means I could use the one key for doors and ignition - but I wonder if the later ignition switch is a straightforward plug in, or is the wiring different? I'vd no worries doing some basic wiring work, but if it's more complex than that, it might be too much of a hassle. My car is a 94 300Tdi, the larger barrels and switch are for a Puma/TD5 Ta Donald 1994 Defender 300Tdi 110 SW - owned since 2002 - 230k miles and going strong (The 'rolling restoration' or tinkering thread: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic58538.html ) 2000 Range Rover P38 4.0L V8 in the past.. Same switch has been fitted from 200 Tdi onwards
Make a note of the locations you remove the wires from the old switch as they are separate tabs not a multi-pin plug. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |
