Thanks but it's got captive nuts so I don't think that's easily done. I'm more worried that the threads shall already be damaged / corroded.

When I built my (Td5) 110, I had the chassis galvanised.
Of course, when I got the chassis back from the coaters, the threads were all blocked up, so i tried running a tap through the towbar holes (to fit a NATO hitch) but the theads came out very messed up, so in the end I drilled them out and tapped to M16 (factory size is M14) These fitted (just) through the hitch holes and made the whole thing a much tighter fit...the M14's seemed to rattle around the hitch holes |

They are threaded and ISTR you will struggle to get a spreader plate behind, even if you could Mike
