Just thought it through a bit more......
Does anyone know if there is anything (such as the bar connecting the two wipers) behind these grommet holes that would snag on washer jets (tubing, rear part of washer jet etc). It seems such an an obvious fix to the washer jet problem that we all have to use these that if it were that simple others would be doing it already which makes me think I am missing something ?? |

I think this is an established mod - using both those blanks to have twin washers. I know I've seen it on here before.
Edit - Darren got there ahead of me, and better too! Putting washer jets there is a very common modification and well worth doing.
I must have done mine 10 years ago, and have never had to touch them since. Uses far less fluid too, as you don’t have to spray for ages waiting for the wind to blow the water over the screen. |

Hello,
My parents used to have an early (1983) Land Rover One Ten when I was a child. I remember that there were two separate screen washer jets, each of them being located in the holes you are talking about. Nothing was fitted in the centre at this time. They were fitted exactly like on this beauty : Click image to enlarge The washer jets themselves looked like this : Click image to enlarge I believe this combination was only found on the early 90 and 110. As far as I remember, this was working quite well (apparently, Land Rover decided this was working too well, so changed them for the crappy single washer jet we all know  )

I thought that the blanks are for the holes done during the production of the firewall so that the wipers can be for left had drive or right hand drive vehicles as required? Once the corresponding wipers are used, the other two holes are plugged. Or did I not understand that correctly.
As for the washers, these plugged off holes CAN be used for washers too but I understand that you have to have a stronger pump in the reservoir to get a decent spray for 2 washers. |

Yes they are the LHD wiper holes.
Standard pump runs two jets no problem at all. |

On the very early vehicles, they did indeed have two washer jets, which used the holes provided for the wipers when the vehicle was handed. This was similar to the arrangement on the Series III models and I think used the same jets. Later, they added a fifth hole in the centre and fitted a single twin washer jet instead, and then blanked off the surplus holes. I think this change occurred around '87/'88. Darren
