BFG or Cooper
OK, so also looking at changing my wheels from 16" to 18"


BFG 265-60-18 or 265/60/18 COOPER DISCOVERER AT3 SPORT 110T


Currently I have had continentals on my truck and more than happy with them


(embarrassingly 95% on road use) Very Happy


What do people think for mainly road use

I believe the equivalent tyre size is 265x65R18.

Personally I just love the look of the KO2's, but probably not the best road biased tyre. I just like a meaty looking side wall, it's what I dislike most about the contis. Silly I know to choose a tyre based on looks! Embarassed James

Your Right I like the chunky 'Look'



But given my continentals are road bias I don't want it to sound more like a tractor with huge nobly tyres.


If they sound' similar I have no issues with either.

I went from worn Conti's to 265x75R16 KO2's and if anything they were quieter, but that mayhave just been a worn tyre to a new tyre, but they're certainly not noisey (over he wind noise!). I find tey handle really well and have not had a squeaky moment yet, even when trying to push them! James

Think this may have been asked recently but anyway, I believe it very much depends on what you want from a tyre.

Out of the three performance wise( for 95% on road) I’d go with the Conti’s all day long. So much better on road and won’t embarrass off it either.

For bling either BFG’s or Cooper’s depending on what you think looks better.



Being a shallow git I went for BFG’s. Occasionally a bit hairy on wet roads but at least I’ll look good going sideways into a ditch.

The BFGs have been brilliant for me until recently, they've become a little loose now, as they're starting the wear after 30k miles.

If you're mainly road biased id look at the cooper zeons in 265/65/18. There is a distinct lack of availability of the BFGs in this size now and any smaller doesnt quite look big enough in my eyes. 2011 Defender DCPU 2.2 - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic30623.html

2010 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 HT Stornoway Grey
I've had both,

BFG 285/65/r18 & now on Cooper Zeon LTZ 286/60/r18

I'd take the Cooper all day every day, might not look quite as good but performance wise so much better than BFG's

Especially wet weather performance, I have AP 6 pots on the front and it was fairly easy to lock up with BFG's

I currently have 235's I think continentals.


Those 285's look very very wide compared, how are they in driving? road noise etc?


I guess they are without spacers but still go further than arches?

Road noise isn't too bad but I do have a huge proper stereo setup and fully sound proofed car;

Don't see any negatives with the 285's driven my mates with 265's and didn't feel much difference, I preferred the wider look so when I changed I just went with 285 again...

They are maybe a smidge out of the arches, the BFG's I had where just inside..

Never been a problem tho

I’ve had both those tyres on the same truck. Road noise and mpg differences were unnoticeable to me. BFG is significantly better off road. Didn’t have any issues with either tyre on wet roads, but I drive like a granny!

When I bought them, they came with stickers really good quality and thick,

Quality must be good they’ve been there 5 years now. Shocked


My second set didn’t come with them. Question


Maybe ask twisted if they have any hidden away?

Cooper have stopped the LTZ around 2 years ago - I tried buying a set and the replacement is the Cooper AT3

My understanding was they still produced them but due to some EU law they no longer import them... I think silverline was where I got them..

I tried Silverline and they said due to EU noise regs they were ceased / stopped in the UK and they couldn’t get them anymore - they sold me a set of Cooper AT3 to go on the Range Rover - it’s a shame because the tread pattern on the LTZ was far better for mud, I bought a set of STT’s to go on the Defender which handle exceptionally well but have a speed rating of 68 mph
