Ignition live
Where’s best to take an ignition live? I’ve a few electrical upgrades to make and want some only working with the ignition on.

I would suggest the radio (that's what I have) or the cigarette lighter... You'll need a relay (depending of load you are connecting) of course Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

As above. What are you planning on fitting that needs an Ign. Live? and where are you fitting it, cabin, engine bay??

I did consider something like a Healtech Thunderbox. Used a lot in other applications. Basically it cuts off at ~12.5v, but switches on when the vehicle is making enough power for "charging" (about 14v I assume).

Also if you have CANBUS or similar it's less likely to cause a fault... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Heated screen and seats is the plan plus a feed to a 13 pin tow socket

I am no electrician but looking at your requirements perhaps a separate fuse box fed via a relay may be an option as I could see that lot taking quite a lot of amps.

I think this will need to be done right or you could create quite a dangerous situation (thinking wiring fire here).

Yes wanting the ignition live to switch a relay to the seats/screen. The same would work for the feed to the trailer. Just wanting to pick up a source that’s not piggybacking off something else

Apologies. Hope I’m not hijacking this thread, but considering doing something similar, so thought it the best place to post.

I want to take power off the main battery, but only when ignition is live.
To charge a portable power bank.
Am I thinking along the right lines:-
Wire from ignition live (‘lighter’ socket) to a relay in battery box
Power from battery to relay;
Lead from relay to fuse box to power outlet.

Any relay suggestions - no huge currrent draw.

Hi,
It sounds like you want something similar to a split charge system I built.
This was done with small voltage sensing relay, no need to pickup an ignition live.
You'd probably move the relay to before the plug, so it's permanently in the landrover, not in the battery box.
A switch in the ground wire of the relay would allow an over ride to turn it off when power at the socket isn't required.
