Thanks. Would the oil that is oozing be brake fluid, axel oil or Steering fluid?

Likely to be CV joint fluid (thin moly grease) Puma 110" SW

I personally can’t see anything wrong. You have a bit of oil residue from the swivel where the grease has got warm. I’m am only seeing pic on small phone screen though

Maybe the picture but it dripping relatively quickly. Anyway this could be steering fluid? The pas reservoir is low. Another picture coming. |

Could the 2 things be connected? I just don’t see how this can be at 24,000 kms.

They won’t be connected.
The leak on the axle is the grease from inside the swivel housing. The failure of the seals there is very common, any any mileage. The power steering box looks like it also has a leak somewhere near it, although they usually leak from the bottom. That fluid may be coming from somewhere else above it. |

The swivel it’s self looks very good and no pitting, I can’t see any drips, I can just see it being damp, which is normal as the swivel is filled with grease that gets flung about, and becomes thin when it gets hot, so they often appear like yours does. The power steering fluid doesn’t go into this bit. If you are really concerned you could clean the parts with brake cleaner and see what happens. If it is dripping it could be brake fluid as the flexible to solid brake pipes join at a bracket that is fixed to the top of the swivel housing.
How is your brake fluid level? The grease that the swivel is full of is dark grey/black, power strewing fluid is bright red, and brake fluid is yellow, like larger. That may help with your investigation. Hope that all makes sense. Andy |

Thanks Guys.
Yeah is definitely dripping. I cleaned it all off earlier today and checked it again about an hour ago and it coming down quite a bit. The fluid looks like the greas that goes inside the swivel joint. At least that is what I could glean from a youtube vid i just watched showing rob stewart change a swivel joint. Fluid is dark with microscopic silvery bits in it. So I am 90% sure its the seal. This looks like a biggish job, not for an amateur. Or am i wrong? Brake fluid level is good and no change after monitoring. Steering housing I think is a separate thing and steering fluid is low. I'm going to the dealer tomorrow. See what they are prepared to do. I am literally 10 days out of warranty. ![]() Thanks again for the input. I will update when i know more. |
