Hi Guys,
Can any one give me advice on how I can program a key to the Defender? Yesterday I changed the battery in the key fob, thinking it would be a simple job, but now the car will not unlock. I now understand I should have followed a certain procedure, but unfortunately can't go back in time. I can access the car using the actual key, but the alarm sounds and the immobiliser is on. I have read about the EKA code, but don't see this in the documents I got with the car. I do however have the small metal dog tag with a code stamped in it, if that is of any use. What options do I have to be able to either re-sync the current keyfob or program a new one? At the moment, my only option appear to be to have the car recovered to a Land Rover dealer. You should be able to re-synch it by repeatedly pressing the the lock button. Information on the number of times varies - some places say four times, some say eight.
If that doesn't work, the only other option is to obtain the EKA code from Land Rover and follow the procedure in the handbook. The little metal tag is, I believe the code for the key and not the EKA. Thanks guys - I've just contacted Land Rover Customer Services so hopefully they can help me with retrieving the EKA.
I've tried lots of button presses, with no success, but I haven't tried it while in the car. I will give this ago after work today. The car is currently parked just outside the building I work in and I don't think people will appreciate the Alarm going off as i try to figure things out - they already had to endure that yesterday. Last thought - are you parked near or under an electrical installation. Electro magnetic radiation is known to interfere with key fobs. Also the antennae for the alarm is in the drivers side A post, so try holding the fob there.
Afraid I can't help on how to reprogram should that be necessary. |

Thanks Martin.
The EKA got the Defender going again and I've just re-sync'd the key fob thanks to your link. I'm wondering if being in the drivers seat is important so the immobiliser coil can communicate with the key. Also I tried to re-sync'd with ignition on and I'd didn't work so tried again with the ignition off and it did work. I'm not sure if this is because I turned the ignition on and then off, or just because it needed to be off. Either way I'm happy and a little wiser. http://defender90xs.blogspot.co.uk/ |
