Hello all, been a while.
Just got back from a lovely trip to NZ, North and South Island, bathed in wonderful sunny conditions. Saw a good selection of Defenders in various guises, specs, colours and ages, throughout the country. Can’t remember them all to chase up any members on here that I might have spotted, but if you tell me what you drive and whether or not you were in any of the following locations during the past three weeks, who knows. Auckland Tairua Coromandel ChCh Canterbury in general... My NZ uncle is a bit of a petrol head, with an extensive selection of vehicles of all ages. Popped over to see them and take his most recent purchase, a Holden Ute SS Redline, out for a blast. With 600 naturally-aspirated BHP from its LS3 it wasn’t hard . Phenomenal, endless power with superb soundtrack. Monster Brembos to make sure things don’t go wrong. He’s a farmer/haulier, so after a cheeky discount and getting the GST taken off, this cost him $50,000NZ or equivalent to £25,000 It’s an absolute beast. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge He also had a very nice, S1 RR V8... Click image to enlarge Plus for our antipodean friends, the Ute he drove as a young’un. Click image to enlarge And a lovely track’err which he still uses on the farm to this day: Click image to enlarge Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

Beaut of a ute! Reminds me of the old Subaru pickup we used to have when I was a kid. Shame there’s nothing like it over here. https://instagram.com/bentheoandrews

Click image to enlarge For those thinking of it, there is a company that has a selection of trip-prepared 90/110s, Tdi and Puma, based in Auckland. http://www.trekkeradventures.com/about/#bio They didn't have one available for my trip to the Coromandel, but on first contact seemed to be friendly and efficient. Will give them a go next time... Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

Seeing the photo of the RRC reminded me, my brother spent quite some time touring round NZ in the mid 90s. Because he was injured badly in a motorbike accident when in his teens he can't drive standard cars so bought a RRC Vogue in the UK, had it modified to allow him to drive it but took a kit of all the necessary parts to put it back to standard with him when he shipped it over there. He got it registered when it arrived & drove it around for months before finally doing a deal with a dealer in Queenstown (from memory) to buy it from him when he came back home. Not only did he cover the cost of buying, converting & shipping the car, he also covered his airfares, all his expenses while he was in NZ & he came home with cash in his pocket from the deal! All I remember of the car was it was automatic & black with a red pinstripe down the side. Annoying thing was, just after he came home I got a job & moved over there for a while so would have been great to have had use of the car while I was there
