I've noticed recently that I'm following people I'd swear I didnt request to follow. Is this a thing, Insta just randomly adding accounts to your follow list?
The latest is thedefenderhubuk, so far as I can tell a new account today, 15 posts but already near 16k followers?? Nothing against the account but do they just buy followers? Yes I have felt that about Instagram. It hasn't happened recently and I put it down to being ham fisted with my fingers when looking through other accounts. I immediately deleted the accounts.
Also be aware that people do change their account names and this has freaked me out a couple of times where I started shouting at my phone that I wasn't following that account, but found it to be a name change. |

I think people build up accounts (which we follow) then sell them on to a related business. The new owner deletes all the existing posts, renames the account and then has their business target market > 110 XS Double Cab |

But also yes you can buy followers! Usually obvious when an account has thousands of followers yet their posts only attract handful of likes. This is because the 'followers' are dormant accounts used purely to follow pages > 110 XS Double Cab

I’m not on FB or Instagram mainly because I don’t want all the crap that seems to come with them that you don’t sign up for. Unfortunately now due to landowner requirements one of the off-road clubs I’m a member of now has a closed membership FB page where members can chat and post photos that cannot be accessed by the rest of the FB world without being approved. I’ve resisted joining for long enough because I get enough junk from Linked-In even though I am careful what I sign up for.
Is there any way to make a Facebook account so you only get what you are interested in and not all the junk/fake news/ Donald J trump posts etc and keep your membership locked/ private? Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed! |

With Facebook, you only see what is posted by your friends, or in the groups you are members of. And you can choose to block those if they start sharing stuff you don't like. They don't even know you've blocked them. I have standing policy of blocking anyone who post about politics for example.
The only thing you don't have much control over is the paid advertising posts, but I guess that isn't any different to visiting any website. You can elect out of the targeting, so you only get random ones rather than what FB thinks you like to see. Obviously, behind the scenes they are harvesting and selling all kinds of metrics and data based on your use, but again, that happens any time you use the internet, it isn't unique to FB. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

Makes for interesting reading.
So far I've avoided watching it as I don't think I want to know but,I understand the Netflix documentary "The Social Dilemma" makes for very interesting watching. Going to have to follow everyone on here now as I’ve just started one for my truck. Not usually a fan of social media but insta seems a much better environment for like minded folk.
