is yours a standard 2.4 set up?
Click image to enlarge looking for the 600+ mile photo can't find it and think I've thrown the receipt away but seem to recall my best 611 miles off 1 standard tank. Click image to enlarge |

Youโve gone more minerals than me.
I wouldnโt let my tank get below 1/4. I Donโt trust the fuel quantity indicator that much or the crap inside the bottom of the tank.. |

I run the additive all the time, it's good stuff although gone up in price a little lately.
Still worth it though by far! I also don't tend to go lower than 1/4 a tank either. No Guts, No Glory.

Never let the 'crap at the bottom of the tank' theory put you off running low. Where do you think the fuel pickup is?
I have run my Td5 out a couple of times. Both times the fuel light had been on for quite a while and I was on my way to the fuel station. No harm done (although a Td5 self primes which makes life much easier ) 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton Last edited by grafty99 on 4th Feb 2019 2:40pm. It's more about making sure it doesn't get too low to get to the fuel station for me than that. No Guts, No Glory.

Mine I think itโs a standard version 2.4. Not sure if it had been remapped by the previous owner. Although it has a nice shinning intercooler. How the heck do u managed over 600 miles???? U being towed??? Haha. Or you have those extra tank in your truck.

I never work out mpg but I only get around 400miles per tank in my remaped 2.2 110SW, no where near 600 miles It is mostly short runs or me with a heavy foot though. It's too much fun to really worry about but that is a huge difference James

hi Grafty - the muk at the bottom of the tank has never put me off. Nearly always do / have run from high to low. the same argument suggests by doing so muk doesn't get to accumulate. additionally you say where is the fuel pick up and what the point of a fuel filter.
try running at 50 mph behind the tall Tesco lorries limited to 50 mph as often as you can. when they're not around just stick at a steady low 50's and hey presto (if you do a lot of motorway driving as I used to. for me anything above 500 miles is good and anything I'm rather disappointed. Also if you're contemplating keeping the defender I'd suggest looking into a remap if you haven't got one already. I'd suggest a 10% improvement on fuel just by shutting of the egr (plus helps save carbon buildup) - so long term the fuel savings will pay for the remap. I have used Millers Additive for years. I cannot fault the stuff, just wish it did not smell so awful even with the orange zest scent additive it still stinks! For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Caterham,
600 miles on a 60 litre tank works out at just over 45 mpg which seems very unlikely. Do you have a larger fuel tank? |
