Hi
I had the same sort of desire,, Clean 90 TD5 , but i let one find me,, Know history from new, very clean, garaged most of it's life, mint bulkhead, chassis & rear crossmember Total base poverty spec, not even rear window washer !!! but with Aircon as a plus Its a blank canvas to do as i want ,, as for budget, think of a reasonable figure and add a few K California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1 Main Brian James Trailer Dealer for South West UK |

I've been looking, but the prices are nuts.
I think newbies have come in to the market at the inflated prices and accepted the prices, us veterans of the green oval remember the value of just 5-6 years ago..... |

Get a good one whilst you can. Tdci’s are cheaper than Td5s, and there good reasons for it. I decided just to pay up and get what I want. I could have wasted loads of money and more importantly, time finding what I wanted, for a cheap price, but in the end I saw something super clean, and just paid the money. The longer they are out there the worse they will get, jump in and save one.

I even started looking at 110 DCPU's Tim, as these don't seem to demand a bit less/realistic.
Sorry to hijack your thread Rob, but it keeps bumping it up. |

So why are the Td5's becoming popular - (and more expensive than Tdci's?)
I've always preferred them but thought I was swimming against the tide. |

DCPU’s are cheaper, but they are strange to live with. At the start they appear to do all, but in reality that are bad at everything. Well that’s my experience of owning one. Just another mistake by me

Can't agree with that - mine is so much more practical than my 300Tdi 90SW, more room, separate areas for wet dogs & other cargo & dry cabin. Only downside is larger turning circle but that's no different to any 110 vs 90. |

I must have had about 20+ Defenders,, both 90 and 110
Best for me is 110 SW,, Had one Double cab (Tomb Raider) was a total waste of time for me, was just too impractical, no good for my needs , By far the cheapest 110 variant by about 2.5k over a 110 SW, so look better value, if you can live with them The 2015 2.2 SW is proving to be a better drive (with a good map) that all the previous 4, 2.4 110 Puma's I wanted a 90 as a toy/work tool (plus to save kicking the of of the 110 !! ) , a bog blank canvas,, Td5 just seam more robust that early Puma's (clutch's last more that 50K, Less drive train issues, etc etc) California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1 Main Brian James Trailer Dealer for South West UK |

Yes for some they will work, but I found the load space was smaller than a 90 hard top, and a lot smaller than a 110 CSW. No long items can be carried unless on roof. Rear are isn’t waterproof, or secure. Many items like roof rack, spare wheel carriers etc are more expensive as less common. The rear seats are really upright so very uncomfortable. But same massive turning circle as any 110.
Those reason are why this time I’ve bought a 110 SW, but now made it a utility, which isn’t available in a Td5 All depends on what you want from it. |

That is so true. I spent eight months searching for a genuine low mileage Td5 90 that ticked all the boxes. I came across loads of tarted up ones as mentioned above. Frustrating when the Landy had been described as mint/ immaculate condition so I would travel to see it but as soon as I put on my overalls and picked up my inspection camera& mirror, the seller would say, well it is 15 years old so expect some rust and oil leaks....🤨! Right or wrong, I ended up paying big money for mine, may be because I am a newbie 😂 But one thing for sure, it has never let me down. I would be working away on contracts for 3/4 months then come home and get in the Landy and drive to London then Bournemouth then back home and it never missed a beat, touch wood! Defender td5 are great so good luck Carman, hope you find yourself a good one 👍 |

Thanks for the input guys. I actually like my 2.2 and my 200tdi is my daily, when not going too far, or the weather is bad. I have sold too many TD5's that I regret, so maybe now is the time, while they are still about. You know where I am if anyone sees a good one but I don't think I'm going to want to get to £19-20k . . . . . .

I have been approached a number of times now with offers to buy my 110 Td5 SW. This has even been to the level of making me think long and hard including taking the chaps number. Each time the interest when I have questioned is very similar, being the Tdci's horror stories (engine failures) and don't like the way Tdci drives and dash encroachment.
I don't share all the views on the Tdci, but having driven them at work and getting back in my Td5 I'll be sticking with the Td5. |
