Air Leak In Clutch Hydraulic System?
Hi there

Having issues with the Clutch hydraulic system seemingly allowing air ingress. Following a 50 mile motorway journey (during which the clutch was never touched) I found the pedal flat to the floor. Clutch fluid level is normal, no evidence of leaks around the master cylinder or from the gearbox drain hole. Having bled the system all was fine for approximately two weeks although I only used the defender for short trips. Then, exactly the same thing happened following the same 50 mile motorway journey. Anyone come across this before? Could it be linked to the motorway journey or maybe sheer coincidence. BTW, it's a 2012 110 with 32k miles on it's second clutch, first was replaced under warranty. Just hoping it's not the slave cylinder as its a gearbox out job! Any advice welcome.

Thanks all

Same fault here a couple of years back, new master cyl didn't change anything (it's a much easier task to do yourself), end result was that I had a faulty slave cylinder.

Pretty common once your vehicle hits a certain age, basically a consumable, depending on age you may want to replace clutch while you (or your local mechanic) are in there. Pretty good time to replace master anyway, as you'll only have to bleed once, and it stands to reason it's just as worn.

Fiiinally, if you have any transmission clunk that UJs, halfshafts, diff, flanges etc, haven't fixed then you may want to have a think about upgrading to the HD output shaft fix from Ashcroft also - this is the time to do it all... Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

Thanks Agentmulder & Keffer90

I'm beginning to come to the same conclusion. Given the minimal cost of the master cylinder I think I'll chuck a new one of those on first and see how I get on.

Shame really as its only 32k mile from new (and had a replacement clutch under warranty at about 12k) so shouldn't really need a new clutch. But I guess if its a g/box off job I may as well do the lot, including output shaft upgrade. Thanks for sharing your experiences fellas.
