As a budget choice, I’ve got a Viofo A119s. Works ok but number plates can be hard to read at night. I’m not sure how much better a more expensive camera would be in that regard though. Whatever you get, do some research on which memory card brand to go for. Cameras can be fussy and a “high endurance card” will probably throw fewer errors and last a lot longer.

I have a Nextbase 312 about £50 and hits the spot in most reviews 1983 Series 3 Pick up in Marine Blue

Thanks for the replies guys I've been looking at ones from Nextbase they seem to get good reviews. Not decided yet though going to give it a good bit thought.

I have a Nextbase 512, my Dad and Brother have the 312. Both excellent. For the money you can't go wrong with the 312

After quite a bit of research, I ended up going for two Blueskysea B1W units. (One front, one rear facing). They get very good reviews for a budget dashcam and the online support for them through the dashcamsupport.com website is superb.
Cost about £50 each from Fleebay, including the permanent wire power supplies. They don't have their own screens, which makes them very small and less obtrusive on the windscreen. They use a wifi connection to an Android or Apple App on your phone. They also use a capacitor as back up battery, rather than a traditional battery, which apparently makes them more reliable over time and in hot conditions. I have them wired to a permanent live 12v feed, using a voltage sensing unit which kills power if the car battery falls to a critical level which would risk preventing you being able to start the car. They feature g-sensor based parking collision detection and seem to last for between 24 and 36 hours before the low battery logic kicks in and the internal capacitor batteries discharge. Ample parking time if you are using the car every day, but I guess a problem if left for extended periods without use. Image quality, night and day, is excellent, with approaching number plates being easy to read when video is played back. Hope this helps as a possible option. |

I have the Viofo A119s in mine, works great when it works but does tend to freeze up quite a bit which involves removal and reformat of the card, no big issue but always seems to not be working when I need it
Also had a Black-vue, had nothing but trouble with mine but everyone else raves about them, maybe I just got a duff one Think it's just pot luck sometimes? Good luck with your search |

A lot of it can be due to the memory card. SD cards aren’t really designed for being constantly written to so they go faulty easily. Both Sandisc and others do cards with a different type of chip specifically for dashcams. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |
