Wiring into a dummy switch
Whilst furtling behind the console of my 2002 Td5 DCPU at the weekend I found this plugged into the back of a dummy switch amongst the 6 above the radio. If the switches were numbered 1-6 from left to right this was in #2. Based on the wire colour does anyone know here what this plug is/was for? Would it be for the rear window heater if this was a station wagon?

Which usefully is wired all the way to the rear with a relay and fuse. Ideal for rear worklight or similar on a dcpu! 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread

Yes I think it is. Wrong slot on the dash though.

Exactly! See the following thread for the proper connector https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic65364.html to make up a patch lead!

Only slight annoying thing is that the heated rear screen dash light will illuminate when in use

I have done similar for my winch isolator using the rear wash wipe connector, see here https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic63641.html

Easy enough to disable the HRW telltale in the binnacle though.

Remove the pin from the instrument cluster connector would be my preferred way.

White with Black to pin 19.

Take care as there are a number of similar coloured wires in there.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

On some versions there is a flip-over bar which clamps onto all the wires - if present this needs to be flipped up. Then each of the contacts is held into the housing by a barb which can be released by pushing a fine jewelers' screwdriver into the gap above the contact metal i.e. don't poke the screwdriver down the pin hole. On Molex connectors you can access each barb from the side without any poke & hope, but these seem to be less friendly.

To release the terminals from a switch connector


Use a small screwdriver to open the hinged terminal lock, 1st side -

Use a safety pin to lift the locking tab above the terminal -

At the same time as lifting the locking tab, pull GENTLY on the terminal's wire -

With the terminals removed from connector housing, you can now easily see the terminal locking tabs above each terminal’s cavity -
