It definitely feels seized.
Sorry I don't understand, do you mean you needed the gas torch to remove the barrel? |

He means to defrost the lock barrel but you've said its not frozen. Sounds to me as if one of the 'tumblers' is stuck up, try using a bit of light oil & work the key in & out to see if you can free it up. If that fails take the door card off, remove the little C clip from the end of the lock & withdraw the barrel & cylinder from the door to see what the problem is.
P.S. The trick I always used when the lock was frozen was to insert the key then heat it gently with a cigarette lighter so the heat transfers down the key to the lock & melts any ice. Also used the lighter to melt the ice in the push button as well. |

I actually meant melt the whole barrel, map gas will melt it out quite easily.

I see. Thanks for your replies.
You're correct. I removed the barrel and when I push the key in, a few of the brass pins remain projecting out of the barrel. I assume they should all disappear flush with the tumbler, and that is what's causing the problem!? |

U can take the pins out, oil the barrel and put it back in sequence. The spring might seized. Else get a new barrel and remove the new pins and match the old pins so u can use your old key.

Thanks for giving me the confidence to do that.
All working again. Took the lock barrel apart and one of the pins had crushed it's spring. Got rid of that one and it works fine now... Thanks so much- Cheers, Yeti110 |
