Need some advice/help
Been looking at this 1986 Land Rover 90 Pickup today. The V5 states registration 01:01;1986 but the Vin code is stamped AA which as i understand it is 1983-1984. Is there an explanation for this? Click image to enlarge Don |

Vehicle was in storage between being built and first registered?

Your right Bendan, MOT history starts at 2014. The vehicle is currently registered for road tax as limited use. apparently used as a farm/Agricultural on reduced mileage use. The chap selling is a dealer and only knows limited history on the vehicle,

Decided not to go with the 90 Pickup in the end, with the missing MOT history i just did not feel comfortable going ahead with the purchase.

Old thread I know, but it is entirely feasible that the vehicle was bought new & never registered but used off road, i.e. On a farm or more likey a road construction site. I bought a 1989 manufactured 90 in 1994 & it had never been registered for this reason. I had to get it MOT'd & insured on chassis number then drive it to a DVLA site to be inspected & issued with a 1989 correct registration number. From memory the V5 showed the year it was built & the year it was first registered for the road & did not have the statement 'declared new at first registration'.

Land Rover 90 and 110 vehicles with 'A' and 'B' codes are not easily distinguishable, but no issues currently surround these vehicles that require the model year to be known for the purposes of ordering items. Just as a by the by, my truck was registered 1:12:1984 and has the letter B as the year indicator. However,A, was used by series vehicles from 1979 -1984 and by Defender type vehicles from 83-84 with B being used from 84 - 86 though there have been other cases of A being used until 87 |

I can vouch for that! In 1985 I bought a brand new Kawasaki GPz900 motorbike and the documents arrived from the DVLA and they declared it was a "steam driven vehicle"!!!! Cheers Don. |
