Three Defenders in our house:
The shiny one ... 2015 2.2 Tdci 110 USW Click image to enlarge The usually less shiny one ... 2007 (last of the line 2006 model year) 300Tdi SW - mostly use this for off-road trips. Still prefer the 300Tdi to anything else when the going gets tough. Click image to enlarge The wife's one ... 2005 300Tdi 110SW Click image to enlarge All of them (along with most vehicles in the Falklands that do much off road work) have wide tyres on because most of the terrain here is peat, peat and more peat, only the depth that varies, so every other Defender in the islands is fitted with 33x12.50R15 MTs of one sort or another. We also have a 2011 Ford Ranger doublecab for gardening, rubbish runs and towing the RIB, and a 2015 Mitsubishi Shogun for other duties. --- 2006 Defender 110 SW 300Tdi • 2011 Ford Ranger XLT crewcab • 2015 Defender 110 Station Wagon Utility TDCi |

Nice collection
I'm curious as to how you get new vehicles over there? Are these Uk spec'd trucks or do you buy from that place we shall not mention over the water or anywhere in South America? What was the logistics of the latest one you have being shipped etc? |

Most of the surfaced roads are either in the town or at the MOD base, most of the rest of the road network is graded gravel of, let's say, 'variable quality'
The vehicle specs have varied over the years according to the whim of Land Rover but most are one sort or other of Rest of World spec. No emissions regulations here so the 300Tdi was sold right up to the end of production, mine is one of the last and I bought it in April 2007. They tend to be basic (and used to be much cheaper than the UK market) so even the Puma has no central locking or alarm/immobiliser, just not needed here. All the Land Rovers (and most other vehicles) are shipped on a military vessel that comes down once a month from Marchwood near Southampton and brings a mix of military and civilian freight. We're a RHD MPH market and South America is LHD and kph, so although the odd vehicles do come in from Chile (there's a couple of Ford F-150s here for example) most are new, or used ones either from the UK market or from Japan. Yep, that's taken at Port Howard lodge --- 2006 Defender 110 SW 300Tdi • 2011 Ford Ranger XLT crewcab • 2015 Defender 110 Station Wagon Utility TDCi |
