Just for Zed, (and then after, those who enjoy skiing), I'll get this thread started:
It is pretty mixed. If you can get above 2000m it's passable, 3000m and it's better still, but it's not a patch on last year. Big dump three weeks ago, then a lot of cold with no precipitation at all. Then rain, rain and more rain over the weekend as high as 3000m. Enough to wash away the lower slopes, effect the mid-level slopes and destabalise the snow pack for any Off Piste mischief. And as of yesterday it's just glorious sunshine and cold every day until (rumour has it) at least the 7th. Sub-zero temps means glacial slopes overnight, being melted by solar heat by day, and repeat, risks ensuring a nice inch thick ice-rink to tackle. But it is still December and whilst last year had epic snow, it is easy to forget that most years, bar the 2000m+ resorts, Christmas/NY have always been touch and go. Big Cry Most reliable site we use is: https://www.snow-forecast.com/, but I'll keep you posted on Snow Conditions (at least for France and Courmayeur), over the season. But the teams have done their very, very best, so we cannot thank them enough. A very lucky boy in La Plagne. Found alive after 40 minutes buried. No transceiver or recco on him, they used a dog.

I'd love to know who was 'leading' the group and allowed a 12 year old to venture off piste without a transceiver. He is very, very lucky and has bucked the odds. Sadly (certainly here in Cham), many play those odds and as we well know from gambling, the house normally wins... Monsieur Le Grenadier
