No, the DB coupling isn't big enough for a NATO ring.
There isn't really a solution without lashing something together and even if you made up some sort of adapter, it'd be awfully low. It wouldn't be legal to tow any trailer with with a NATO lunette behind a Freelander since there is no type-approved method of attaching a suitable pintle to the Freelander (or a Disco Range Rover, etc). Only the Defender can do it.
The only way to do it would be to modify the trailer to use a ball hitch or ring and pin hitch. The NATO lunette should only be towed with a military pintle, there are very few pin/jaw couplings that are suitable and then only for an old-style rotating lunette. The later military trailers with a fixed (non-rotating) lunette must only be towed with a rotating pintle. The practical solution is to get someone with a Defender to do it, or use a car transporter trailer. |

Thanks BW. Have not owned or towed a Sankey trailer so when I was asked if the Nakatenga 2 to 4 hole adapter would take a NATO hitch it was outside my knowledge zone. The Nakatanenga 2 to 4 hole adapter will not take the NATO hitch as it is a different hole pattern.
So it does not seem legal or practical to tow a Sankey with a Freelander. Will give the information over and let them make a more informed decision. Thanks for your help. Brendan |
