Sorted, traced it to the alternator bearing! 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0

I am not sure how did your fault finding IB73 bur using a long screw driver as a stethoscope is very effective.

It didn’t occur to me to use a screwdriver actually - good call - as you said though completing a full risk assessment is advisable 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0
