Hi blackwolf.
Thanks for the link. Someone else pointed it out to me as well. I think the P38 BBUS may work differently after reading a few posts on the forum, but I haven't got to the bottom of it yet. It may be that the pin wiring is different, but the trigger signals, live and earth feeds are the same. If so, just a case of rewiring the connector. I need to track down a P38 wiring diagram to compare with the Puma. And I don't know if the P38 used the 10AS controller. Also, I would be worried about the age, if the photo is of the real unit. 1998. Not sure how NiCd's handle being stored discharged for that long? Thanks to another helpful forum member, I may have a solution already, but if that doesn't work out, I'll continue to investigate the P38 option. But thanks again. |

As far as I know it's the same part number.

I'm not so sure Blackwolf.
See this posting : https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic35612-15.html According to info in that post, (which may or not be correct) P38 used AMR4971 which was replaced by YWK100140 Disco1 / Defender started with AMR4974 and went though various codes to end up as LR044570 The units look identical, but I can't find a P38 wiring diagram to compare the wiring to the Defender. Also, I'm not sure if the 10AS uses a simple 12v trigger on the 2 pins connected to the 10AS unit, or something more complicated that is interpreted by the internal BBUS electonics. As far as I can tell P38 didn't use the 10AS alarm module, so this may be why the internals on the two BBUS units differ. If anyone reading this, can shed more light on the compatibility, it would be great. |

Aha, thank you. I had the P38 part number written down for some reason, without noting that it was the P38 one not the Defender one.
How daft having two visually identical incompatible units! I don't have a P38 wiring diagram, unfortunately. |
